Nanxiong in Shaoguan City is named as the land of ginkgo. More than 5000 ginkgo trees with a history over 100 years in the town can produce hundreds of tons of ginkgo seed every year. The ginkgo output grew from 100 tons to 300 tons in 2009, over 250 tons have been sold out, earning about 9 million RMB, repaid the hard work of the grower.
From 2009, Nanxiong city readjust its agriculture structure and extend the ginkgo plant area to 4000 mu, which bring 10 million RMB incomes to the city every year, with every grower earned about 10,000 RMB.
Shaoguan City
1. Overview
Situated in the north part of Guangdong Province, Shaoguan borders Hunan and Jiangxi to the north and is connected to Pearl River Delta region in the south. Serving as the economic, political and cultural center in north Guangdong and a transportation hub, Shaoguan is the bridgehead of the strategic passage through which Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao radiate their influences to Chinese mainland. Shaoguan has jurisdiction over Zhenjiang District, Wujiang District, Qujiang District, Renhua County, Shixing County, Wengyuan County, Xinfeng County and Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County. In addition, Shaoguan also administrates Lechang City and Nanxiong City on behalf of Guangdong Province. Covering a total area of 184,000 square kilometers and with a population of 3.281 million, Shaoguan as a city enjoys a history of 2,100 years.
2. Development Goals & Positioning
Based in Guangdong, Shaoguan faces the whole country and serves Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangxi. It is Shaoguan’s long-term development goal to build itself into an economically powerful city, a transportation hub, a regional center, a harmonious city and a city boasting beautiful landscapes. Following the ecological approach to development, Shaoguan highlights the vigorous development of transportation, tourism and major industries and strives to press forward a new path to industrialization and urbanization, industrial application of distinctive resources and a systematic approach to ecological construction. Shaoguan plans to use five to ten years to forge itself into a central city in north Guangdong, a base of advanced manufacturing industry, a processing and production base of quality agricultural products, a key area of ecological tourism and a model city of ecological construction.

Shaoguan is home to Danxia Mountain, a world natural heritage. It is awarded the National Excellent Tourism City, National Hygienic City, National Garden City, National Double-Support Model City, The City with Ecological Development in Finance, China’s Capital of Zinc, Guangdong Cultural and Historic City and Civilized City in Guangdong Province.
