On February 18, Wan Qingliang, secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, and Chen Jianhua, deputy secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Guangzhou, met with a survey delegation headed by Liu Tienan, vice chairman of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and director-general of National Energy Administration (NEA). Both sides exchanged views on Guangzhou's energy security, new energy vehicle development, clean energy utilization and other issues.
As a super large city, Guangzhou is facing new challenges such as population growth and limited resources bearing capacity, inadequate environmental capacity, short power supply and energy scarcity, said Wan, adding that Guangzhou has further determined to especially support and develop the new energy vehicle industry as an emerging strategic industry. He also hopes NDRC and NEA would further guide and support Guangzhou in such aspects as energy security, new energy vehicle development and clean energy utilization, thereby providing strong support for Guangzhou to turn into a national central city in an all-round manner and take the lead in transformation and upgrading.
According to Liu, in recent years, Guangzhou has been keeping ahead in the country in such aspects as new energy development and utilization, and energy conservation and emission reduction, and more important, it also maintains an upward momentum. Guangzhou, a national central city, is economically developed and contributes to the country greatly, so the work with regards to energy security, energy conservation and emission reduction is of great importance together with heavy pressure to Guangzhou. NDRC and NEA will actively coordinate all forces, integrate various resources, and provide guarantees for electric power supply, oil and gas supply and new energy vehicle development, thereby support the sustained and healthy development of Guangzhou's economy and society.
