As an important Index in Guangdong Price Index platform, Foshan Ceramics Price Index is the first comprehensive ceramics price index in China showing the price changes of both building ceramics and sanitary ceramics. Foshan is China’s biggest building ceramics production base and the third biggest building ceramics exporters after Italy and Spain. Siwan is the original place of the local ceramics industry development, however, Chancheng become the core region of the industry currently, and Nanhai, Xiqiao, Luochun, Shishan, Danzhao have all developed related industries, thus a complete industrial chain is formed. In 2009, Foshan has over 500 above designated size ceramics manufacturers, with a 89.87 billion RMB industrial output. Its exports booked 1.72 billion USD, accounting for 77 percent of Guangdong’s ceramics export and 55 percent of China’s ceramics export. 

2. Compilation

The index selected 70 out of 1500 local building and sanitary ceramics enterprises as samples. The selected companies are domestic and foreign funded famous brands and some representative SMEs. The index has categorized ceramic products into 266 types, including 243 building ceramic products and sanitary ceramic products. The Building Ceramics Price Index, Sanitary Ceramics Price Index and the Ceramics Index calculation are all based on the price information of these 266 products.

3. The Index’s Influence 
China’s ceramics products have made a stand in international ceramics markets. However, domestic ceramics enterprises have not formed a strong alliance on product standard and pricing. Foshan, the biggest ceramics manufacturer and trader in China, try to compile the index and set a model for China Ceramics Index compilation. The index will help the enterprises to adjust their pricing and production strategy, thus lead the industry to more healthy development
